Looking back at Lea

Author: Andrew Gilman | August 2, 2023

Lea Jansen finished her singles career with another medal Sunday at the Seattle Open.

Not surprising. She’s the second-most prolific singles winner in PPA history.

Jansen wrapped her singles play with a silver medal at Seattle. It was her 27th singles medal in all, second behind Anna Leigh Waters who has 31.

This season, Jansen didn’t win gold in singles, but she earned seven silvers and two bronzes. Her nine this year are second only to Waters, who has 10.

Here are some of her most memorable matches:

May 20, 2021: Jansen earned a silver medal, the first of her career, at the Atlanta Open, falling to Catherine Parenteau.

June 24, 2021: About a month later, Jansen earned her first gold medal. It came in the final of the Orange County Cup. She beat Waters. It was the first singles medal that Waters had won in her career.
